Cetacæ is a sound installation inspired by the acoustic properties of whale bones and the sonic memories of cetaceans. A deconstructed whale cranium, made entirely in ceramic is used to play underwater soundscapes recorded across the globe. The work intertwines the symbolic history of whale bones with current knowledge on sound pollution in the ocean and how it impacts marine mammals.
Visitors listen to soundscapes of humans and whales across different time scales through bone conduction, by resting their heads and bodies onto the sculptures.
